Aspire Japan was a new company whose business model was to purchase high-quality American brand-name products to sell in Japan through monthly catalog sales.
ICLA was tasked to design and produce a presentation of such quality and elegance that it would reach the presidents, CEO’s and CFO’s of major American brand companies without being intercepted by their assistants. To achieve this goal, ICLA designed a leather box to hold: a presentation book, a personalized thank (chop), inkwell, cards and set of envelopes and an instruction sheet on how to use and maintain the hanko.
The presentation box was fabricated with high quality bonded leather over gray board with a leather hinge on back. The only decoration on the box was the Aspire Japan logo foil stamped in the center of the lid.
The presentation book was case bound with matte white and matte red foil stamping on red silk with a double-reveal cover. The text was printed four color process with spot gloss varnish and spot dull varnish throughout, then smyth sewn.
The individual hanko was cut and polished granite with the company logo etched on the side and the individual’s name inscribed in Japanese on the bottom. The instruction sheet that accompanied the hanko provided the recipient with a phonetic pronunciation of his or her Japanese name, how to use the hanko and how to care for and clean the hanko.
The cards and envelopes were printed four color process, banded together and inserted in a well under the presentation book for use with the hanko at a later date.
